Downey Long Course Meet Results:

May 7, 2012

We had a good showing of 42 swimmers participating in this swim meet.  The cooler weather went away.  Mostly sunny and warmer temperatures helped all the swimmers enjoy the day and swim fast.  All the results can be found under the “Results” page. 

Sign-ups for the June Metro Committee Swim meet is Wednesday, May 23th.  Please notice the June Invitational swim meet sign-ups is June 6th.  See the Upcoming Swim Meets for details on both swim meets.

 

La Mirada Long Course Meet Results:

April 16, 2012

We had 30 swimmers participate in this meet and were very fortunate to have dry sunny days after the 2 rain storms coming through LA.  This again was a good swim meet for many swimmers, getting personal best times.  All the results can be found under the “Results” page. 

We want to especially congratulate 8-year-old Ashley Lin for breaking the Team Record for Girls 8-and-Under in the 50 meters Backstroke.  Way to go Ashley! 

Sign-ups for the May swim meet is this Wednesday, April 18th.

Lastly, remember, this week Riptides 1 starts at 5:45 on Thursday, April 19th.

 

Spring Break Practice – April 2-6:

We will have practice at the Rosemead Pool during Spring Break, April 2nd – 6th.  The Riptides swim practice times will remain the same:

Riptides 1: 5pm – 6:15pm

Riptides 2: 6:15pm – 7:45pm

Cerritos Long Course Meet Results:

March 19, 2012

We had 42 swimmers participate in this meet.  For many, this was their first Long Course Meet.  Many got their personal best, and we all enjoyed being in an indoor environment during the rainy and windy conditions.  The results can be found under the “Results” page. 

 

Metro Championships:

February 22, 2012

We had 40 swimmers come out and do very well at the Short Course ending meet.  Most dropped a lot of time to get personal bests.  The results can be found under the “Results” page. 

 

We are now looking forward to the Long Course swim season that goes from March to August.

 

Spring JOs Highlights:

February 14, 2012

Great job to all our Junior Olympic swimmers.  They all swam well and represented our team in high style.

 

Our highlight is Jerry Wang breaking his own 100 Free team record with a time of 54.73.  Jerry got 2nd (silver) both in the 50 yards Breaststroke and 50 yards Freestyle, 3rd (Bronze) in the 100 Breaststroke, 5th in the 50 yards Butterfly, 8th in the 100 Freestyle. Great job Jerry.

Cerritos January Meet Results:

January 17, 2012

We had 38 swimmers participating in this swim meet.  Many had improvements, see the Results page for details.

 

Jerry Wang improved his own Team Reason on the 100 Free.  Great job Jerry.

 

We are winding up the Short Course season.  One more swim meet in this Short Course season: the Metro Committee Championship.  See the Upcoming Meet page for details; the free sign-ups is on February 1st.

 

Jerry going to Vancouver, Canada as an All-Star:

January 6, 2012

We want to congratulate Jerry Wang for making the Southern California Swimming (SCS) All-Star team, which will complete in the Pacific Coast All-Star swim meet in Vancouver, Canada this weekend.

 

This 32 swimmer SCS All-Star team (8 girls and eight boys each from the 11-12 and 13-14 age divisions) will compete with other All-Star teams from Pacific Northwest Swimming, Oregon Swimming, Pacific Swimming, and Swim BC (British Columbia).

We had a good showing at this swim meet.  15 swimmers participated from our team, and a few making new JO times.

 

The pool is back in order.  We are practicing again.

No practice from Dec. 5th-10th:

December 5, 2011
There will be NO practice this week due to the damage from the wind storms.  The power at the high school is back on, but the pool is dirty and will need some work/time before it is usable again.  We will resume practice next Monday, Dec. 12th.

 

Bellflower Swim Meet Results:

We had a good showing at this swim meet.  20 swimmers participated from our team.

No practice Friday, Dec. 2nd:

December 2, 2011
There will be NO practice today (Friday, Dec. 2nd).  The wind has caused us to cancel practice due to the following reasons:

·         the pool’s pumps are not on, which will change the chemical levels.

·         Leaves, twigs, etc. are in the pool, which cannot be cleaned out in time.

·         No electricity for lights.

Please help spread the word, as not everyone has electricity to check their email.

 

Cerritos Swim Meet Results:

November 22, 2011
We had a good showing this last swim meet.  50 swimmers participated from our team in a swim meet close to 1,000 swimmers.  What a meet!

 

A special congratulations to Jerry Wang for breaking 3 team records in the 100 IM, 50 Free, and 100 Free.  2 of these were records unbroken for 25 years!

 

Thanks to all the parents for handling all our timing assignments.

 

Reminder: Saturday morning practice will be held this Saturday, November 26th from 7-9am.

 

Timing Training:

November 6, 2011
We will be having a short 15 minute Timing Training at the pool from 6pm-6:15pm on Tuesday, November 8th.  This will show parents how to be a timer at a swim meet, and why it is needed.  If the upcoming November swim meet will be your first, or you would like some more info. on timing, please attend this short training session.

 

Great team effort at the Halloween Meet:

October 25, 2011
Our coaches say “Great Job” at the Halloween Swim Meet at San Gabriel.  All times are unofficial and cannot be used for other swim meets, but we had fun and had some good swims.  We had a large showing of around 55 swimmers, and we got 2nd place for the “large” teams.  Go ARSC!

August 24, 2011
Our first Short Course (25 yard pool) swim meet for the Fall will be at Santa Fe Springs from September 17-18th.

We have a team-wide free service to sign up for this meet. During practice on Wednesday, August 31st, just bring your checks and the list of events you would like to enter to the club house.

Party Day on August 24th:

August 13, 2011
All team members are invited to come to “Party day” on August 24, from 5-7:30pm.  This to mark the end of summer and just have fun after working hard up to our August swim meets.  Food and drinks will be provided.

Junior Olympic Highlights:

August 9, 2011
Here are some highlights and pictures of some special performances at the Summer Junior Olympics.

12 year-old Kevin Huang won Gold (1st place) in both the 50 meter Breaststroke and the 100 meter Breaststroke.  In the process, he broke our team records for these 2 events.  This is complete domination!

 

12 year-old Jerry Wang took Silver (2nd) in the 50 meter Freestyle, Bronze (3rd) in the 100 meter Freestyle, 4th in the 200 meter Freestyle, and 7th in the 50 meter Breaststroke.  Great job!

 

Both Kevn and Jerry were also honored earlier this summer for having Top 16 times in all of Southern California Swimming.  Jerry had a Top 16 time in the 50 Free, and Kevin had a Top 16 time in both in the 50 and 100 Breaststroke.

 

Our 11-12 Boys had great performances in the 200 meter Relays.  Raymond Cu, Kevin Huang, Jerry Wang, and Adrian Lim got Bronze (3rd) in the 200 meter Medley Relay.  Skyler Chiu, Adrian Lim, Kevin Huang, and Jerry Wang finish 4th in the 200 meter Freestyle Relay.  Great teamwork boys!

 

Last by not least, 10 year-old Derek Chen made Consolations (9th-16th place) in all 6 of his JO events.  That’s the way to make a splash!

Jerry Wang makes SCS All-Star Team:

July 19, 2011
12 year-old Jerry Wang joins a select group in being named to Southern California Swimming's North American Challenge Cup Team.

Jerry will travel with approximately 12 athletes in each age group, 11-12 13-14, 15-16, 17-18, male and female,
to Puerta Vallarta, Mexico August 2-7 to compete against some of the fastest athletes from Pacific Northwest, Pacific, Mexico, and Canada.
Jerry's hard work and results thus far in the Long-Course season helped him earn a spot on this summer's team.

Congratulations to Jerry and all of SCS's participants at NACC.

 

Welcome New Coaches:

ARSC warmly welcomes 2 new coaches to our team. They join Coach Alva Cha on our coaching staff.

   Coach Tyrone Brown mostly runs the older RipTide1 and RipTide2 workouts.

   Coach Grace Co mostly works with the beginner swimmers.

Hopefully we will have more background information soon about our coaches so you can get to know them.
